Michael and Christina Gyetvan opened the original Azzurro Pizzeria on Second St. on September 18, 2001, and for nearly ten years Azzurro Pizzeria & Enoteca, now located on Main St. in Napa, has proven to be one of Napa's most beloved spots for authentic, thin-crust pizzas. Azzurro Pizzeria & Enoteca also excels with its amazing pasta specialties, seasonal antipasti selections like bruschetta and artisanal salumi, creative, fresh and seasonable salads and other simple but great food - with a thoughtful, West Coast based wine list to match, including most offerings available by the glass. In addition, daily specials and intriguing wine and beers are always featured on the specials board. At the end of a meal, customers can enjoy rotating specialties like buttermilk panna cotta with local honey, chocolate polenta cake, and always available is Straus Family organic soft serve ice cream, with homemade chocolate or caramel sauce.
Owners Christina and Michael Gyetvan worked with Kimberley Nunn and Dan Worden of Shopworks in Napa, keeping the design simple and comfortable, with the feeling of a traditional Italian pizzeria, but with a modern sensibility. In addition to lively wine bar, the restaurant also features a community table that can be reserved for large parties.
Michael and Christina Gyetvan met at Tra Vigne in the early 1990s, where Michael was Chef de Cuisine and partner. They opened their first restaurant, Pizza Azzurro, at its original location on Second Street in downtown Napa. As early believers in the City of Napa Downtown scene, they eventually outgrew the Second Street space, renamed the restaurant Azzurro Pizzeria E Enoteca, and in 2008 developed a beautiful and expanded new space on Main Street at the north end of Napa’s restaurant row.
A Minnesota native and a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park New York, Michael developed his keen culinary skills under the tutelage of acclaimed chefs Michael Chiarello and Bradley Ogden, having led the kitchens at Tra Vigne, One Market and the Lark Creek Inn. His time and experience within those kitchens has fueled his philosophy of simplicity and freshness in every meal he prepares. Now that Azzurro Pizzeria has achieved such tremendous accolades and success, Michael is now considered one of Wine Country’s top performing chefs and restaurateurs.
Christina a San Francisco native can be found at both Azzurro Pizzeria working on the accounting, and coordinating the catering side of the restaurants Presto Catering.
Both Michael and Christina are avid outdoors-people, enjoying skiing, cycling, kayaking and camping. They are the proud parents of four children. The Gyetvans share their home, with two rescue dogs, a German Shepherd named Stella and an Australian Cattle dog mix named Angus.
Azzurro Pizzeria E Enoteca offers fresh, locally sourced, satisfying, and unpretentious food and drink at reasonable prices and enjoys that magic reputation as both a local favorite and a visitor destination.
